3. Frequent handwashing in our public toilets is highly recommended, as is the use of our sanitizing gel dispensers.
4. It is forbidden to gather in groups.
5. Visitor access may need to be regulated by our staff to keep the numbers of people on the property under control.
6. Tour guides and tour operators accompanying groups of visitors must make sure that members of their groups respect the required distances and use a facemask.
7. Our staff are authorized to enforce these rules.
8. Any visitor breaking these rules or failing to comply with staff instructions will be immediately accompanied off the property.

GROUP VISITS

We inform visitors that due to the pandemic situation, until further notice, groups are admitted only if pre-booked. Guides must make sure that all participants have a Green Pass. Further checks will be carried out by our staff.

Guided tours with Cemetery a volunteer are suspended until further notice.

Group visits with your own guide
We ask you to please contact us at least ten days in advance only via e-mail at ornella.forte@cemeteryrome.it. We cannot accept requests via telephone.

Please provide the following information : where your group is from, name and contact details of the group leader/guide, date and time of visit and number of people in the group.

IMPORTANT: because of the restricted space in the Cemetery and coronavirus legislation, a group must not exceed 15 persons, guide included. Larger groups must be split into two or more, each with its own leader/guide. If a group is split, only two groups will be able to enter at the same time.

The limit is strictly 15 persons, guide included. We ask guides not to cause unpleasantness and embarrassment to our staff by trying to enter without booking, exceed the 15 person limit or split groups at the gate. If such incidents happen, we will be forced to close to the public again and only open the gate for reserved groups.

We regret that we cannot accept groups of school pupils under the age of 16.

Groups are kindly suggested to leave a donation of at least € 5,00 per person. All donations go towards the maintenance of this private cemetery and important historic site which receives no public funding.

Notes for group leaders/guides
The Cemetery is private property and an active burial ground where funerals and burials take place and where concession holders visit the graves of their loved ones.

The Administration reserves the right to refuse entry to visitors who do not follow the regulations or who disturb the peace and decorum of the site. All visitors enter the Cemetery at their own risk.

You are reminded that the ground is uneven – comfortable shoes are a must!

Before the entering, group leaders/guides should read the Regulations for Visitors and make sure their group members abide by these. If you book a tour and need to cancel or think you might be late, please send an e-mail at the same address or call the Cemetery as soon as possible.

On arrival please report first to the Visitors’ Centre to leave donations and to receive updated information.

Guided tours with a cemetery volunteer
The Cemetery can provide a guide in Italian or English for groups of 10 to 15 people. The tours last approximately one hour. Tour are available only to native speakers.

Please complete the form attached HERE and send it to us at least ten days before your proposed visit. Reservations can only be made via e-mail to ornella.forte@cemeteryrome.it. Our guided tours are not suitable for non-native speakers.

We remind you that we cannot accept tours for groups of school pupils under the age of 16.

For guided tours we suggest a donation of  €8,00 per person (for schools €5 per person). All donations go towards the maintenance of this private cemetery which is also an important historic site.

Guided tours are led by volunteers according to their personal availability; we cannot guarantee to satisfy all requests.

Toilets are available but there are no refreshment facilities – there are plenty of bars and restaurants in the nearby Testaccio area a few minutes walk from the site. To plan your tour better, you might like to consult the map of the Cemetery. To find out about our latest activities see our Newsletters. If you would like to support the Cemetery click on Friends.

There is an excellent view of the Pyramid of Cestius from the site, but it is not possible to access the pyramid from the Cemetery.

CEMETERY OPENING HOURS

From Monday 6 September the Cemetery will return to normal daily opening hours. Click here for details.

We regret that we have had to be closed to the public for some months in order to allow us to carry out burials, gardening and conservation work and allow families to visit their loved ones in safety.

Even though we could not open the gates to the public, we have continued to care for those remembered here, for the garden and the monuments, as we have for over 300 years, and we look forward to welcoming you to our beloved garden.
